Durant pr\u00e8s de deux si\u00e8cles, cette l\u00e9gislation plonge le pays dans une restructuration de son mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique (1). En effet, les \u00e9changes commerciaux internationaux \u00e9tant drastiquement r\u00e9duits, les artisans et marchands se recentrent alors sur le commerce domestique, qu\u2019ils consolident et optimisent (2). Toutefois, le Japon est un archipel volcanique et montagneux. La liaison entre les diff\u00e9rentes r\u00e9gions g\u00e9ographiques ne s\u2019entreprend pas sans difficult\u00e9. Les infrastructures terrestres sont limit\u00e9es. C\u2019est ainsi qu&rsquo;un r\u00e9seau routier terrestre et maritime est \u00e9tabli pour favoriser les \u00e9changes commerciaux et culturels au sein du pays. Parmi les plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres voies terrestres, nous pouvons citer celle du T\u014dkaid\u014d \u6771\u6d77\u9053 (3) ou du Kisokaid\u014d \u6728\u66fe\u8857\u9053 (4), reliant toutes deux le pays d&rsquo;Est en Ouest, de T\u014dky\u014d \u6771\u4eac \u00e0 Ky\u014dto \u4eac\u90fd, en 53 et 69 stations respectivement. Le premier nomm\u00e9 Tsuruga relie la ville d\u2019\u014csaka, centre n\u00e9vralgique du commerce japonais, \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion du Hokkaid\u014d, l\u2019\u00eele la plus au Nord de l\u2019archipel. Le second nomm\u00e9 Zuiken, se dirige vers Sakata au d\u00e9part d\u2019\u014csaka. Les marins longeaient le littoral ouest par la mer du Japon, faisant escale \u00e0 de nombreux ports pour y vendre et acheter de nouvelles marchandises (5). La force des Kitamae-bune \u00e9tait de pouvoir entreprendre un voyage aller-retour. De mars \u00e0 mai, d&rsquo;\u014csaka \u00e0 Hokkaid\u014d sont transport\u00e9es des marchandises des r\u00e9gions du Sud, puis d\u2019ao\u00fbt \u00e0 octobre, d&rsquo;Hokkaid\u014d \u00e0 \u014csaka, celles du Nord (6). En effet, les bateaux des premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e9poque d\u2019Edo, appel\u00e9s Sengoku-bune, \u00e9taient des navires de transports de grande capacit\u00e9 mais peu adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 de longues travers\u00e9es dans les mers agit\u00e9es (7). Quant aux Kitamae-bune, leur armature est con\u00e7ue pour pallier ces faiblesses structurelles. Ils sont construits sans clous, selon la technique traditionnelle appel\u00e9e Sashimono \u6307\u7269, permettant aux coques de mieux absorber les chocs violents des vagues. Leurs grandes voiles uniques, nomm\u00e9es Matsuemon et invent\u00e9es \u00e0 la fin du 18\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, permettent \u00e9galement aux constructions navales de r\u00e9sister aux vents violents des typhons. De plus, leur tirant d\u2019eau faible permet aux navires d\u2019accoster plus facilement et rapidement dans les ports (8).\u00a0 Enfin, ils comportent des cales spacieuses \u2014 id\u00e9ales pour le transport de marchandises. Ainsi, les Kitamae-bune s&rsquo;imposent comme des navires robustes, con\u00e7us pour naviguer sur la mer du Japon, r\u00e9put\u00e9e pour ses conditions difficiles, ses hivers rigoureux et ses \u00e9t\u00e9s propices aux typhons.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-67daeb7c1ea2eed35773676e3fe36a58 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:17px\">Cette premi\u00e8re avanc\u00e9e technologique permet au Kitamae-bune de s&rsquo;imposer comme un moyen de commerce fiable et prosp\u00e8re, tout en restant un domaine propice aux progr\u00e8s technologiques. En effet, \u00e0 l\u2019or\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e8re Meiji (1868-1912), l&rsquo;influence et l\u2019inspiration des constructions navales des occidentaux comportant plusieurs voiles permet une am\u00e9lioration des designs des bateaux. Nombre de marins-marchands font ainsi fortune \u2014 imposant cette route comme un axe cl\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9conomie japonaise et caract\u00e9risant cette \u00e9poque comme son \u00e2ge d&rsquo;or (9). En effet, deux singularit\u00e9s expliquent la gen\u00e8se de sa r\u00e9ussite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Premi\u00e8rement, \u00e0 bord de ces bateaux, la marchandise y est abordable et peu co\u00fbteuse. Denr\u00e9es alimentaires (comme le riz, le sel, le hareng ou le Sake) ; objets domestiques (en laque, textiles et v\u00eatements de Kyoto, c\u00e9ramiques ou papier washi &#8211; \u548c\u7d19) ; des produits manufactur\u00e9s ; des objets cultuels ; des ressources naturelles (tels que le coton, le fer, le bois ou la pierre) sont recens\u00e9s sur d&rsquo;anciennes listes de marchandises (10). Cette diversification significative des produits permet une optimisation du commerce. De plus, la quantit\u00e9 de denr\u00e9es et biens vendus par les Kitamae-bune peut s\u2019\u00e9lever jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 150 tonnes de marchandises (11).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour illustrer cela, nous pouvons regarder le cas des propri\u00e9taires de Kitamae-bune de la ville de Takaoka, au port Fushiki. Ces derniers transportaient de la paille et du riz d&rsquo;Osaka vers le Nord, de f\u00e9vrier \u00e0 avril. Les bateaux rapportaient ensuite, sur le chemin du retour, du <em>kombu<\/em> (\u6606\u5e03 &#8211; algue japonaise) et de l&rsquo;engrais fabriqu\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de poisson ou de bois (12).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deuxi\u00e8mement, il est progressivement rendu possible aux bateaux Kitamae-bune de faire escale \u00e0 de nombreux ports pour y vendre et acheter de nouvelles marchandises. En 1672, le shogun ordonne au marchand d&rsquo;Ezo, Zuiken Kawamura, de maintenir les routes maritimes de T\u00f4ky\u00f4 vers Sakata. Dix villes deviennent ainsi des ports d&rsquo;escale de cette route officielle, o\u00f9 chaque clan fut contraint d&rsquo;instaurer une politique de taxe gratuite. Plus tard, en 1870, le shogun prend sous sa juridiction directe la zone est d&rsquo;Ezo, ce qui permet aux bateaux marchands de la route de l\u2019Ouest de commercer avec n&rsquo;importe quel port. \u00c0 l\u2019encontre des circuits commerciaux rigides et centralis\u00e9s sous le contr\u00f4le des Tokugawa ou de la r\u00e9glementation et du monopole des clans f\u00e9odaux, les marchands des Kitamea-bune b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaient d&rsquo;une grande libert\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9change pour sp\u00e9culer et maximiser leurs profits (13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette l\u00e9gislation permet une autonomie commerciale et une flexibilit\u00e9 rares. Les marchands doivent \u00eatre capables d\u2019anticiper les fluctuations des prix et les besoins selon les r\u00e9coltes, les intemp\u00e9ries, ou encore les \u00e9v\u00e9nements politiques. Le d\u00e9veloppement de ce commerce permet alors une certaine autonomie \u00e9conomique dans des r\u00e9gions isol\u00e9es du Japon, une intensification de la production et l&rsquo;enrichissement des marchands (14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De plus, ce commerce d\u00e9tient des b\u00e9n\u00e9fices suppl\u00e9mentaires. En effet, les propri\u00e9taires des bateaux autorisent les capitaines d\u2019y charger jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 10% de marchandise personnelle, et donnent 5 \u00e0 10% du revenu des ventes aux marins. Ces bonus encouragent l\u2019\u00e9quipage \u00e0 \u00eatre tr\u00e8s attentif et soigneux avec les marchandises. Ce syst\u00e8me est populaire parmi les employ\u00e9s, et travailler pour un Kitamae-bune est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un moyen rapide de s&rsquo;enrichir. En effet, ces voiles de Nord v\u00e9hiculent le r\u00eave d&rsquo;un marin marchand ind\u00e9pendant, libre et prosp\u00e8re (17). En effet, le commerce via Kitamae-bune peut faire remporter 1000 Ryo, soit l&rsquo;\u00e9quivalent actuel de 60 million \u00e0 100 million de yen. Ce syst\u00e8me incite donc de nombreux jeunes marins \u00e0 se lancer dans l\u2019aventure (18).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b9361beef0f25fd4b62c4bc49e65069c wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:17px\">Certains marchands font fortune et r\u00e9investissent dans le d\u00e9veloppement local des villes et des r\u00e9gions. De nouveaux ports d\u2019escale sont construits, de nouveaux navires financ\u00e9s, des infrastructures locales am\u00e9lior\u00e9es. En effet, la circulation des sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s gastronomiques influence les pratiques culinaires d&rsquo;autres r\u00e9gions. Par exemple, le <em>kombu<\/em> produit sur l\u2019\u00eele Hokkaido a donn\u00e9 naissance \u00e0 une culture culinaire unique \u00e0 Toyama : le <em>kamaboko<\/em> roul\u00e9 au <em>kombu<\/em>, le <em>kombu-jime <\/em>(poisson cru pris en sandwich entre des feuilles de <em>kombu<\/em>), les boulettes de riz recouvertes de <em>tororo-kombu<\/em> (<em>kombu<\/em> r\u00e2p\u00e9), ou encore des bonbons au <em>kombu<\/em> (21).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le chant folklorique <em>Haiya-bushi<\/em>, originaire de Kyushu est devenu le chant <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Jb4_AKNYENU?si=P98bAuDa9MBaR89v\">Sado okesa<\/a>, populaire dans la pr\u00e9fecture de Niigata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les techniques artisanales comme la technique de tissage Sakiori ou le style Sashiko se transmettent dans diverses r\u00e9gions. De plus, la diffusion des objets artisanaux, comme les c\u00e9ramiques ou les textiles de Ky\u014dto, permet une certaine uniformisation des go\u00fbts et des styles tout en nourrissant la cr\u00e9ation artistique et artisanale (22).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De plus, les voiles du Nord deviennent \u00e9galement une source inspirante artistique et religieuse. Les \u00ab\u00a0Funa-ema\u00a0\u00bb, plaques de bois repr\u00e9sentant un bateau, ou encore des maquettes de bateaux reproduites en miniature sont offertes aux dieux, dans les temples, pour implorer un voyage sans encombre. Des autels bouddhistes portatifs sont \u00e9galement construits \u00e0 destination d\u2019\u00eatre emport\u00e9s \u00e0 bord des bateaux pour prier durant les voyages. Ces objets sont des t\u00e9moignages \u00e9loquents des pratiques cultuelles locales de l&rsquo;\u00e9poque. Par exemple, cinquante-deux \u0153uvres d&rsquo;art d\u00e9di\u00e9es aux navires de commerce et de p\u00eache qui desservaient la r\u00e9gion de Teradomari dans le pass\u00e9 sont conserv\u00e9es dans la salle de culte principale du sanctuaire de Shirayamahime dans la ville \u00e9ponyme.
